Origin of stone Buddha
佛教起源于印度，在公元前6世紀(jì)，釋迦牟尼創(chuàng)立了這個讓人深刻的宗教。從那時起，佛教大概經(jīng)歷了原始佛教、部派佛教、大乘佛教、秘密教等多個階段，而佛教的造“像”，大約從部派佛教時開始，在公元前3世紀(jì)的阿育王時代，但那時的造像，還沒有佛陀的形象，是用象征物替代。如一匹馬象征佛逾城出家，菩提樹象征佛的覺悟成道，鹿和法輪象征佛在鹿野苑初轉(zhuǎn)法輪，以及以腳印、蓮花寶座來象征佛的存在等等。按造型藝術(shù)的視角來看，阿育王時代的隱喻法，就不能認(rèn)作是真正的石雕佛教造像了。而具體的石雕佛像產(chǎn)生來源，大致有兩種說法，一種是歷史意義上的，一種是依信仰角度來的。

Since then, Buddhism has probably experienced many stages, such as primitive Buddhism, sectarian Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism and secret religion. The creation of "images" of Buddhism began around the time of sectarian Buddhism, in the age of Asoka in the third century BC, but the images at that time did not have the image of the Buddha and were replaced by symbols. For example, a horse symbolizes Buddha's becoming a monk over the city, the bodhi tree symbolizes Buddha's enlightenment and becoming a Tao, the deer and Falun symbolize Buddha's turning of Falun in Luye garden, and the footprints and lotus throne symbolize the existence of Buddha, etc. From the perspective of plastic arts, the metaphorical method in the Asoka era can not be regarded as a real stone Buddhist statue. There are two theories about the origin of specific stone Buddha statues. One is in the historical sense, and the other is based on the elevation angle.
